NEW YORK, N.Y., Oct. 12 Sue and I have always found music to be a fine recreational and aesthetic choice between home stands during the season, and certainly during the cold, cold months leading up to the rebirth of baseball in March. What follows is a trio of musical selections, all of which we’ve heard in the Cathedral, and all lyrically tailored a wee bit, to fit the occasion so to speak:
To the tune of Chicago’s “Saturday in the Park”
Saturday in the (ball)park
You’d think it was the Fourth of July
Saturday in the (ball)park
You’d think it was the Fourth of July
Moose is pitching, A’s are missing
Time for Yankee baseball
Ri-ver-a is on call
Can we help them win it all?
Can we dig it (yes, we can)
And we’ve been waiting such a long time
Since Thursday…
To the tune of Mel Torme’s “Sunday in New York”
New York on Sunday,
Yank players taking a lap
Round the bases on Sunday,
Life’s a ball,
the A’s fall
Game 4’s a wrap
To the tune of “Monday, Monday” by The Mamas and the Papas
Monday, Monday, so good to me
Monday mornin’, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday mornin’, Monday mornin’ brought a guarantee
That Monday evenin’ the Yanks & A’s are in the Bronx with me
See you Monday.
YANKEE BASEBALL!!!
